Normally up to 15 hours a week during semesters; no hour limit in June–August. Specified study-related or university work can qualify for an exception.

English: Under the rules effective from 11 June 2026, this route to apply for a work permit from within Sweden requires completion of an entire higher education programme lasting at least two semesters, evidenced by a degree certificate or certificate of programme completion. Merely studying for two semesters or earning 60 credits is insufficient. Completing year one of a two-year master’s does not meet this requirement. Apply before your current permit expires and meet the employment and other applicable conditions. Doctoral students have a separate rule requiring completion of two semesters of doctoral studies.

Unlimited work during the remaining validity of the current permit requires completion of an entire higher education programme lasting at least two semesters, a diploma or certificate, and no new application for a first- or second-cycle study permit. Completing individual courses, two semesters or 60 credits alone is insufficient. This exception does not itself grant a work permit.
